Issue / QuestionHow to install a Zebra printer using the ZDesigner driver version 10?
Applicable ToZebra printers running Link-OS and the ZPL printer command language.
Resolution / Answer
 
NOTE ZDesigner Driver version 10 is for all label printers with Link-OS.

ZDesigner Driver version 5 is for all label printers without Link-OS. For example, the G-series label printers (GC, GX, GT, GK Series), TLP2844, or any other printer that is not compatible with a version 10 driver
 

Procedure:
 
  1. Find your printer's latest driver by visiting Support and Downloads: Printers Support.
  2. Insert your printer model into the search bar.

  1. You can see the list, where you will be able to find support pages for your printer. Here is ZD620 for example, if you do not specify the print mode, you will find both options, direct thermal and thermal transfer).

  1. Select the support page for your printer and navigate to Downloads > Driver > click the arrow on the right side to download the driver.

Installing the ZDesigner Driver Version 10:
  1. From the Printer's Support page, select the Driver tab.
  2. Select the required printer driver and click Download.
  3. On the End User License Agreement page, click Accept and Begin Download Now.
  4. Locate your.exe (executable file) on your computer (typically, the downloaded file can be found in your Downloads folder). Double-click the file to run it.
  5. When the 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?' prompt appears, click YES. 
  6. When the Wizard for ZDesigner Windows Printer Driver appears, click Next.

  1. Check the box I have read the information above and click Next.

  1. You can read Release Notes and run the installation wizard; it depends on what fields you check: "View Release Notes" or "Run the printer installation wizard."
  2. Click Finish.

  1. Wait for the files to load and click Next to start installing the driver.

  1. Select the Install Printer Driver option to install the printer driver.

  1. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement, then click Next.

  1. Select the communication option you want or configure for your device.

  • Network Port: For installing printers with an Ethernet (LAN) or wireless (Wi-Fi) network connection.
  • USB Port: For installing printers connected with the USB cable.
  • Bluetooth Port: For installing printers with a Bluetooth connection.
  • Other: For installation on other types of cables, such as Parallel (LPT) and Serial (COM).
  1. For the network installation, wait for the driver to scan on your local network for the device location.

  1. For USB installation, connect the printer to the computer. If the printer is already connected and powered on, remove the USB cable and insert it again. The driver will automatically search for the model of the connected printer.

  1. Your Zebra printer is now installed with the ZDesigner driver version 10.
  • If necessary, click Open Printer Preferences to open Printing Preferences.
  • You can click Install another printer to install a new one if necessary.
  • Otherwise, click Exit to exit the installation summary window.

  • If you open Printing preferences > Help and About > You can see your driver's version
