Communications via the Parallel Port and Serial Port are detailed in the links below. 
 

NOTE Serial Communication requires use of a NULL Modem cable. In addition Baud, Data Bits, and Parity must be matched and use of Flow Control (DTR/RTS or Xon-Xoff) is recommended.
