There are two recommended solutions to print to Zebra printers from SAP:
- Smart Forms
- SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe.
Zebra supported the SAPscript Upload Method in the past using the ZebraDesigner for mySAP software. The software was discontinued in October 2019, and the SAP Script Upload Method is no longer a solution recommended by SAP.
 | NOTE Both recommended methods provide the ability to print Unicode characters. |
- Smart Forms
SAP Smart Forms has included native barcode printing capability since the release of SAP R/3 v4.6c in 2001 and continues to be one of the recommended solutions by SAP.
Zebra's innovative Smart Forms device types simplify the design process by enabling users to easily create barcodes, text, graphics, and other elements on a label.
Device Type installation instructions are contained in the SAP Notes in the Device Type Package download.

- SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe
SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe is an alternative licensed option which had natively supported Zebra ZPL printers since its release with NetWeaver 6.40 in 2004. Contact your SAP representative for details on obtaining a license. Zebra does not directly support Adobe Interactive Forms. If you choose to print with Adobe Interactive Forms and need help with an issue, the process is to contact SAP for an issue number. With the SAP issue number, you can then contact Adobe for direct support.
- SAPscript Upload Method
It is still possible to use SAPscript, but Zebra no longer offers software to create SAP ITF (Interchange Text Format) files. Instead, you can manually add the necessary SAPscript to a ZPL template and upload it to SAP. Zebra now recommends using Smart Forms or SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe.
