Issue / QuestionWhat to do if a 'Ribbon Out' error appears on the front panel display of a ZT410 or ZT420 printers?

Resolution / Answer
When a Ribbon Out alert is shown on the front panel display of the printer, the meaning of the indicator lights are as below:
  • Status Light (steady red light)
  • Supplies Light (flashing red light)

In Thermal Transfer mode: 
  • The ribbon is not loaded
  • The ribbon is loaded incorrectly
  • the ribbon sensor is not detecting the ribbon
  • Media is blocking the ribbon sensor
  1. Load the ribbon correctly. Refer to Load the Ribbon for more information.
  2. Calibrate the printer manually. Refer to Calibrate the Ribbon and Media Sensors for more information.
In Thermal Transfer mode, the printer did not detect the ribbon even though it is loaded correctly. 
 
  1. Print a sensor profile. Refer to Sensor Profile for more details then refer to Print Information. The ribbon out threshold is likely too high, above the line that indicates where the ribbon is detected.
  2. Calibrate the printer manually. Refer to Calibrate the Ribbon and Media Sensors for more information.
  3. Load printer defaults. Refer to Load Defaults for more information.
 If you are using direct thermal media, the printer is waiting for the ribbon to be loaded as it is incorrectly set for thermal transfer mode.
